Western Australian Legal Theory Association

Western Australian Legal Theory Association

The Western Australian Legal Theory Association (WALTA) is a group of academically interested lawyers, legal scholars and students. The Western Australian Legal Theory Association was founded in 2010 by Professor Augusto Zimmermann. The Association also publishes an annual law journal entitled the Western Australian Jurist.

In January 2018, the Western Australian Legal Theory Association moved from Murdoch University to its new home at Sheridan Institute of Higher Education.

The Aims of the Association
The association aims to promote scholarly discussions on subjects related to legal theory, jurisprudence, and contemporary issues in law.

Conditions of Admission
To be qualified to join the Association, one has to:

  1. be an academic; or
  2. be a law student; or
  3. have taken an LLB or JD with Honours at any recognised Law School

Students who wish to apply for membership must comply with the following requisites:

  1. to be at least in their second year of legal studies; and
  2. to have an outstanding academic record; and
  3. to have completed the unit Legal Theory (or Legal Philosophy, or Jurisprudence) with Distinction or High Distinction at any recognised Law School.

Regular Meetings
Meetings are to be conducted on a regular basis by members of the Association. Each meeting will be focused on the discussion or an article or book chapter. The idea is to provide members with an opportunity to discuss legal principles, theories and issues in an enjoyable context of discussion and exchange.

Creative Writing Hub

Creative Writing Hub

Who We Are:

Creative Writing Hub is a free community creative writing group that meets monthly.

Whether you’re trying out poetry, writing food blog posts, or drafting your third literary novel, you are welcome here.

What We Do:

• We meet to spend time writing, with the option of sharing our work with one another and giving each other feedback.
• We seek to encourage writers who work from a faith-based perspective.
• We hope to encourage and engage respectfully with writers who work from other perspectives.

Plans for the Future:

• We’re developing some in-house publishing opportunities.
• We plan to make creative content in partnership with Sheridan’s proposed Indian Ocean Research Centre.
