Student Orientation

Orientation is compulsory for all commencing students and is held in the week before semester commences.

It is a great opportunity to meet other students and the staff at Sheridan!

Sessions covered during orientation include:

An introduction to study
Campus life
Student support services
Computer facilities
Library resources
Post-entry Language Assessment (PELA)
Post-entry Numeracy Assessment (PENA)

Post-entry Language Assessement (PELA)

All students enrolled in an accredited course are required to take PELA. This diagnostic tool is rolled out during Orientation. This helps identify students who may require additional academic English support.

Academic English support is offered free, each semester, through the Write Well Editing Workshops. Any student may attend these sessions, but those identified - through PELA - as needing extra help are especially encouraged to attend. In addition, our English language support staff are available for student consultation.

Post-entry Numeracy Assessment (PENA)

All students enrolled in an undergraduate Business course are required to take PENA. This diagnostic tool is rolled out during Orientation. It helps identify students who may require additional support in Mathematics.

Students with an insufficient grade in PENA are required to enrol in the Foundation of Mathematics unit (MA105). This unit runs during Semester 2.
