November 2021 biennial Indian Ocean Studies Conference – Sheridan Institute of Higher Education, the WA Maritime Museum, and the Australian Association for Maritime History (for presentations from the 2021 conference, see the following link: https://sheridanicon.weebly.com/presentations-2021.html)
About the conferences: The biennial Indian Ocean Studies Conference provides an important venue for researchers, scholars, policy-makers, students and the general public to meet and share their thoughts and ideas on this significant region. The conferences have facilitated presentations and discussions focusing on the sub-themes: maritime history and trade, education and communities, faith and culture, disease and disease control, environmental studies, and defence and strategic studies. Scholars with a research interest in these topics presented at the conferences, and the recent edited book (2022) published by Lexington Books developed from the findings of the 2021 conference.
The biennial conferences have been organised collaboratively by staff in the Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty at Sheridan Institute of Higher Education and scholars from the WA Maritime Museum, and the Australian Association for Maritime History. The next conference will take place in Perth, Western Australia, in November 2023, and we welcome scholars who are engaged in the field of Indian Ocean Studies – broadly defined – to express their interest (details forthcoming).
