Health Support Services
First Aid assistance may be obtained from the Office – the Registrar is First Aid qualified.
A First Aid cupboard is located in the kitchen and may be accessed at any time. In the event that medical attention is required, the Registrar will liaise with a hospital or local doctor.
For health issues which are not of an emergency nature, Student Services is available to assist students in finding the appropriate medical care. There are several options for medical care in Perth. Some of these are:
- Fire, Health and Police Emergencies - 000 This is for Fire, police or critical or life-threatening health emergencies. This number will connect you to Emergency services and from there you will be asked to choose the type of assistance you need. (Medical Insurance Reminders!)
- Health Direct - If you are not sure whether you should visit urgent care, a clinic or the emergency department of your local hospital please call 1800 022 222. You can also go online and look at the free symptom checker.
- Urgent Care St John operates several Urgent Care clinics which can treat a range of issues outside of an emergency room in Cockburn, Joondalup and Armadale. (Phone numbers in the Student Handbook). Under “Emergency Contacts”.
- Walk-in Clinics Perth has several walk-in clinics which can be attended during regular business hours without an appointment. Central City Medical Centre Ph: (08) 9225 1188 is located in the Wellington St train station area and Perth Medical Centre Ph: (08) 9481 4342 is located on Hay Street. There are several others and for help in locating the one closest to you please talk to the Director of Student Services.
- Chemists There are two chemists located close to Sheridan Institute of Higher Education which are Vim and Co, located inside the IGA building on Newcastle St and the Priceline located in the Wellington St train station.
- Free Check-ups Some insurance providers have agreements to offer free check-ups through specific clinics. For more information or for assistance in contacting your insurance provider, please see the Director of Student Services.
- Physical therapy is also offered through the Central City Medical Centre. If you need information about physical therapists or other specialists close to you, please contact the Director of Student Services.
- Pregnancy, Birth and Baby Is a pregnancy, birth and baby helpline available free for those who need assistance or support with pregnancies or infants - Ph: 1800 882 436.
