Dean of Education
EdD, University of Western Australia, 2017
There is a warmth, breadth, and depth to Susan – perhaps a reflection of her childhood days growing up on a farm in South Africa. An inquisitive, life-long learner, she began her tertiary education studying a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry and Physics) at Stellenbosch University. The very next year, she was lecturing at the Technical College of South Africa. During this time, Susan pursued further studies: a bachelor’s and then a master’s degree in Education (graduating as cum laude) from what is now known as the University of Johannesburg. She worked as a researcher for South Africa’s ‘Human Sciences Research Council,’ examining various educational issues. In 2009, Susan and her family migrated to Australia where she completed a PhD at the University of Western Australia – looking into home-based learning support groups. Her motherly heart always draws out the best from every learner (both on and off campus). At Sheridan, Susan brings 35 years of experience to the Master of Education program and is busy designing a new teaching course.
